Synopsis

Spaces of terror, produced by massacre or disappearance, do not belong to far away galaxies or to some kind of no one’s land, rather they are inserted into our everyday geographies. We coexist with them, often they go unseen or unperceived. They have a voice and things to tell, so let’s start listening. Sensitive Data leads you to recognize and interrogate these landscapes within the Mexican geography, to immerse yourself in their textures, their patterns, the voices that inhabit them. And there is another code that speaks to us, disturbingly.

Biography directors

Anne Huffschmid is a researcher and filmmaker based in Berlin. In her transdisciplinary research she combines etnographic as well as analitical, audiovisual and artistic approaches. Her projects have dealt with a wide range of topics related to Latin American conflicts, among them her latest audiovisual research on forensic landscapes and resistance in the face of forced disappearance. „Sensitive Data“ in the latest outcome of that research, as well as the documentary „Persistence“ (2019, with Jan-Holger Hennies, which participated in numerous international festivals and was awarded as best documentary in DocsMX, 2020 edition) as well as the webdocumentary „Forensic Landscapes“ (2020 www.forensiclandscapes.com, selected for the IDFA Doclab 2020).

Alfonso Díaz Tovar is a documentary filmmaker and social psychologist based in Mexico City. Alfonso specializes in memory and comunitarian practices, his audiovisual work has focussed on cultural tradition as well as memorial sites in his home country Mexico.

The filmography of Alfonso Díaz Tovar includes two seasons of the series “Museos Vivos” (Living Museums, 2013-2015); co-director of the experimental documentary “Pie de página” (2014, winner of the 9° Festival Internacional de Cine Documental de la Ciudad de México (DocsDF) for best Mexican short film; co-director of the documentary “Puntos Suspensivos” (2015) winner of the Zanate Award, CONACULTA for the best short film documentary in the 8° Festival de Cine Documental Mexicano Zanate.

Video-Serie: La Investigación Desafiada

Serie de videos-cápsulas, de diez capítulos, elaborada por Anne Huffschmid para el Lateinamerika-Institut de la Freie Universität Berlin, que introduce a metodologías de investigación cualitativa en contextos complejos y emergentes (libremente disponibles en linea en este enlace).

Para hablar de estas temáticas, se han invitado renombrados expertxs investigadores de diversas regiones de América Latina (México, Colombia, Argentina, principalmente), como son Aida Hernández y Natalia Quiceno, Ramiro Segura , Kathrin Wildner y Sarah Corona Berkin, Guiomar Rovira y Marcela Suárez, Laura Malagón y Verónica Ferreira, Marcela Turati y Daniela Rea, Agustina Triquell, Gerrit Stollbrock y Pablo Martínez Zarate.

Para presentar la serie se impartieron tres talleres virtuales, desde el propio LAI, los dias 13 de octubre y 15 de diciembre, así como el 2 de febrero de 2021 (con alrededor de 100 personas inscritas de más die diez países).

The webdocumentary „Forensic Landscapes“ directed by Anne Huffschmid and launched in February 2020 in Mexico City was awarded as best webdocumentary at the FINNOF Festival of New Nonfiction Narratives (http://finnof.org/en) in Argentina (April 2020) and participates in the official selecion of the IFDA Filmfestifal in Amsterdam that starts at 16th of November (link to festival).

Am 2. Oktober 2019 nimmt metroZones am Diskursprogramm im Rahmen der Ausstellung 1989–2019: Politik des Raums im Neuen Berlin teil (Neuer Berliner Kunstverein, Chausseestraße 128/129, 10115 Berlin, 19 Uhr). STADT ALS BYTE (22. Juni 2018, 12-17 Uhr, im Rahmen von CLAIMING COMMON SPACES, HAU2)

Wie Tech-Unternehmen und Immobilienwirtschaft das Leben in der Stadt verändern // organisiert & moderiert von metroZones –
In diesem Labor sollen die Zusammenhänge von Tech-Urbanism und Verdrängung an zwei Beispielen untersucht werden: San Francisco und Berlin. Die Expansion der Internetwirtschaft in San Francisco hat die Immobilienpreise in die Höhe schnellen lassen und Gentrifizierung sowie soziale Spaltung beschleunigt. Auch in die Berliner Innenstadt drängen nach Jahren der Deindustrialisierung mit Start-Ups und Logistik-Konzernen neue industrielle Sektoren. In beiden Städten zeugen zahlreiche Proteste von urbanen und sozialen Konflikten. Als Gast aus San Francisco berichtet die Sozial- und Kulturantrhopologin Erin McElroy (u.a. antievictionmap.com) von den Strategien des Widerstands gegen Verdrängung in ihrer Stadt, Felix Hartenstein, Stadtökonom, Urbanist sowie Mitbegründer des Instituts für Wirtschaft und Stadt, und Clemens Melzer, ehemaliger Pressesekretär der Gewerkschaft FAU, die die Deliverunion für Fahrradekurriere von Deliveroo und Foodora, ins Leben gerufen hat, berichten von Auswirkungen des Tech-Urbanisms in Berlin.

metroZones-Saloon #13 + InterLause#4 (9. Mai 2018, 19-22 Uhr, Lausitzer Straße 10):

Die Webtech-Ökonomie sucht nach immer neuen Wegen, ihren Einfluss zu erweitern und ihre Gewinne zu steigern. Das wird auch in Berlin spürbar, wo Google gerade Fuß zu fassen versucht. In den vergangenen Jahren haben sich hunderte Internet-Firmen in der Stadt angesiedelt – von mittlerweile etablierten Playern wie Rocket Internet bis hin zu jungen Start-Ups, die hoffen, mithilfe von Risikokapital das nächste große Ding zu werden. Gerne lässt sich die WebTech-Industrie in jenen Nachbarschaften nieder, wo sie das zu finden glaubt, was sie dringend für ihren Erfolg braucht: „Coolness“ und „Community“, „Kreativität“ und „Diversität“. In San Francisco und Seattle zeigt sich aber längst, dass die Branche mit dieser Standortstrategie Verdrängungsprozesse beschleunigt und dafür sorgt, dass Quartiere veröden. Auch in Kreuzberg und Umgebung sind erste Anzeichen eines Verlusts gewachsener Vielfalt erkennbar. In der Veranstaltung wollen wir lokale Erfahrungen und Proteste zur Sprache bringen und so zu einer „Gegenerzählung“ beitragen – gegen die Erzählungen der WebTech-Industrie, mit denen sie ihre Einverleibung städtischer Ressourcen rechtfertigen. Wir testen ein selbstverwaltetes lokales Open-Source-Netzwerk zur Unterstützung von Info-Veranstaltungen und Plenumssituationen und präsentieren eine kollektiv erstellte Broschüre zum Thema der Berliner Internetökonomie.
